Acrylic
Genuine Tru-Vue® optical framing and museum acrylic sheets precision-cut at our Farmingdale, NY facility. 50% lighter and 20x more shatter-resistant than glass, with up to 99% UV protection and virtually invisible anti-reflective coatings.
Complete Buyer's Guide to Tru-Vue® Framing & Museum Acrylic
Standard picture frame glass is heavy, casts a murky green iron-oxide tint over white mats, and shatters into razor-sharp shards ("The Guillotine Effect"). Compare our 4 precision-cut Tru-Vue® acrylic tiers below to select the exact optical and UV protection your artwork deserves.
Which of the 4 Tru-Vue® Acrylic Tiers Should You Pick?
Each tier is 50% lighter and 20x more shatter-resistant than glass. Pick your tier based on room lighting and artwork value:
Tru-Vue® Premium Framing Grade Acrylic
Crystal-clear water-white optical transmission with zero green glass tint. Half the hanging weight and 20x the impact strength of standard glass.
Tru-Vue® Conservation Clear® 99% UV Acrylic
Blocks 99% of destructive indoor and outdoor UV radiation (300–380nm) to stop ink fading, paper yellowing, and live signature degradation while remaining 100% crystal clear.
Tru-Vue® Conservation Anti-Reflective (Reflection Control)
Combines 99% UV blocking with a microscopically etched matte surface that scatters mirror-like reflections from opposite windows, skylights, and recessed spotlights.
Tru-Vue® Optium Museum Acrylic®
The pinnacle of optical engineering: virtually invisible (<1.6% reflection via camera-lens optical coating—zero matte blur!), 99% UV blocking, permanent anti-static protection, and hard-coat abrasion resistance.
Customers often ask how our two glare-eliminating tiers differ:
- Conservation Anti-Reflective (Reflection Control): Uses a micro-etched matte surface to diffuse light. It works wonderfully when placed directly against art or over a single 4-ply matboard, but if placed over a deep shadow box or triple mat, the matte diffusion slightly softens fine details.
- Optium Museum Acrylic®: Uses microscopic optical interference coatings (like a luxury camera lens) rather than a matte texture. It is 100% razor-sharp at any depth—even over 4-inch deep shadow boxes—making the glazing appear completely invisible!
Standard acrylic sheets naturally carry a static electrical charge that acts like a magnet—pulling loose chalk pastel, charcoal dust, and unvarnished pigment flakes right off the paper onto the inside of the glazing! Tru-Vue® Optium Museum Acrylic® is engineered with a permanent anti-static coating, making it the only shatterproof glazing safe for pastels and charcoal drawings.
