A Hospital Corner is a highly specialized, geometric folding technique used to wrap excess canvas flawlessly around the back of the stretcher bar. It prevents thick, unsightly fabric bulges from jutting out of the sides, ensuring your canvas sits completely flush against the wall and maintains perfect architectural symmetry.
For a standard 1.5″ Contemporary Gallery Wrap, you need at least 2 inches of extra canvas on all four sides (4 inches total added to the length and width). This accounts for the 1.5″ depth plus 0.5″ to securely wrap around to the back for stapling.
Yes. This is our absolute specialty. We utilize specialized canvas pliers equipped with wide, rubberized grips to pull the canvas tight without marking or cracking the existing paint layer. For highly brittle or older oils, we can also apply a flexible archival varnish beforehand to prevent micro-cracking during the tensioning process.
For massive works that exceed standard freight limits, we offer a specialized “Rolled with Bars” transit protocol. We custom manufacture the heavy-duty cross-braced stretcher bar system here, safely roll your canvas, and ship both to your destination where they can be assembled on-site. Alternatively, we custom-build rugged wooden transit crates via our art packing and shipping department for fully stretched deliveries.
Yes. A Floater Frame is a specialized L-shaped architectural frame designed explicitly for stretched canvases. It sits around the perimeter without touching the edges, creating a dark, shadow-box gap (reveal) between the artwork and the wood. It makes the canvas appear to “float” effortlessly within the border and is the benchmark standard for high-end gallery presentation.
