Complete Shopper's Guide to Kiln-Dried Pine Stretcher Bars
Engineered at our Farmingdale, NY facility from finger-jointed, kiln-dried North American pine, our pre-squared gallery stretcher bars deliver warp-free stability and drum-tight tension. Open the guides below to compare 1.5" vs. 1.0" depths and calculate canvas bleed.
Your choice between our two stretcher bar depths depends entirely on how the finished canvas will be displayed:
- Choose 1.5-Inch Deep Gallery Stretcher Bars: When hanging your canvas unframed as a modern 3D Gallery Wrap (with staples concealed on the rear), or when mounting inside a modern L-profile Canvas Floater Frame.
- Choose 1.0-Inch Deep Gallery Stretcher Bars: When mounting your canvas inside any of our Plein Aire, Linen Liner, Ornate, or Traditional Picture Frames so the bar seats flush inside the frame rabbet without sticking out the back.
To wrap your canvas around the stretcher bar sides and staple it securely to the back using neat hospital corners, use our studio formula (Bar Depth + 0.5" Rear Staple Margin Per Side):
- For 1.5-Inch Deep Bars: Allow 2.0 inches per side (add 4.0 inches total to both your height and width).
- For 1.0-Inch Deep Bars: Allow 1.5 inches per side (add 3.0 inches total to both your height and width).

Cheap art-store bars warp as humidity changes and leave a hard rectangular crease ("ghost line") on your canvas whenever your brush presses down. Our bars feature finger-jointed kiln-dried pine to eliminate internal wood twist, plus a raised outer perimeter bead that suspends the canvas above the inner wood flat.
