Why Artists Choose Abbot Art Giclée: A true fine art print should never look like a "copy"—it should carry the emotional weight, luminous saturation, and tactile presence of the original work. At our Farmingdale, NY facility, we combine Canon Lucia Pro 12-Color Archival Pigment Systems, 48"×72" Flatbed Fine Art Scanning, and Spectrophotometer ICC Color Profiling to produce museum-grade editions rated to endure for 100 to 200+ years without shifting or fading.

12-Color Lucia Pro

Micro-encapsulated archival pigment inks with dedicated Red, Blue, four neutral monochrome channels, and Chroma Optimizer for deep, velvety D-Max blacks.

Scientific Color Match

Hardware-calibrated D50 (5000K) studio monitors and custom spectrophotometer ICC paper profiles ensure what you envisioned is what hits the cotton rag.

48"×72" Art Scanning

Starting from a physical painting? Our large-format flatbed scanner uses raking light and cross-polarization to capture every brushstroke without glare or lens distortion.

I. Brightness, Contrast & Saturation: The 12-Color Pigment Advantage

Standard commercial print shops rely on 4-color (CMYK) dye-based inks that soak into cheap paper fibers, look flat in shadow areas, and noticeably fade within a few years of UV exposure. At Abbot Art, we engineer fine art editions at the molecular level using the Canon Lucia Pro 12-Color Archival Pigment System.

01. 100–200 Year Archival Longevity

Unlike liquid dyes that dissolve into water and break down under sunlight, our pigment inks consist of microscopic solid color particles encapsulated in protective synthetic resin. They bond directly to the surface of 100% cotton rag fibers, resisting UV radiation, ozone, and humidity for over a century (Blue Wool Scale 6+).

02. Extreme Dynamic Range & D-Max

Four dedicated neutral monochrome channels (Black, Matte Black, Gray, and Photo Gray) work alongside a specialized clear coat called Chroma Optimizer. This levels the microscopic ink droplets to eliminate metallic "bronzing" glare—producing abyssal, velvet blacks alongside crisp, luminous highlights.

03. Unrivaled Color Gamut & Chroma

Dedicated Red, Blue, Photo Cyan, and Photo Magenta channels expand our printable color volume far beyond standard printers. Whether reproducing electric cobalt ocean swells, delicate portrait skin tones, or fiery cadmium impasto, high-saturation hues print with zero banding or clipping.

II. The Scientific Method for Perfect Color Matching

Every artist and photographer knows the heartbreak of receiving a print that looks dark, muddy, or color-shifted compared to their screen. That happens because monitors use Additive Color (transmitted RGB light) while paper uses Subtractive Color (reflected pigment light). Our lab bridges that physics gap through a rigorous 3-stage scientific color workflow.

01. D50 (5000K) Studio Calibration

Consumer screens run overly bright and artificially blue (6500K+), fooling the eye into making files that print too dark. Our reference monitors are hardware-calibrated via colorimeters to 5000K (D50 daylight standard) under controlled studio viewing booths so shadow detail is judged with absolute precision.

02. Custom Spectrophotometer ICC Profiles

Textured cotton watercolor paper and satin exhibition canvas absorb ink very differently. We do not rely on generic factory presets; we use precision spectrophotometers to measure thousands of printed color patches on every individual substrate, generating bespoke ICC profiles for our exact New York studio humidity and ink batch.

03. Perceptual & Colorimetric Gamut Mapping

Working in wide-gamut Adobe RGB (1998) or ProPhoto RGB, our master technicians select the ideal rendering intent for each piece—preserving subtle atmospheric gradients in landscapes (Perceptual) or locking in exact brand and skin-tone accuracy (Relative Colorimetric) with optional hard-proof strips.

III. Fine Art Digitization: 48"×72" Flatbed Scanning

A print is only as faithful as the digital capture behind it. Photographing original paintings with a standard camera lens introduces barrel distortion, edge softness, and uneven lighting hotspots. At Abbot Art, we digitize original oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and mixed media on our massive 48"×72" Large-Format Fine Art Flatbed Scanner.

01. Zero Lens Distortion

Because our linear sensor travels directly across the plane of your artwork up to 4×6 feet in a single pass, straight architectural lines stay dead-straight and corner-to-corner focus remains razor-sharp down to individual paper fibers and canvas threads.

02. Raking Light Impasto Capture

Heavy oil impasto and palette-knife textures look lifeless under flat copier light. We use specialized directional raking light to kiss the peaks and valleys of your brushwork, capturing realistic micro-shadows that give your finished print astonishing 3D tactile depth.

03. Cross-Polarized Glare Elimination

Varnished oil paintings, glossy acrylics, and metallic gold leaf reflect harsh white glare under normal lights. Our cross-polarization optical filters cancel out surface reflection entirely, seeing straight through the varnish to capture rich, unadulterated pigment underneath.

Technical & Trade FAQ

For optimal crispness, we recommend 300 DPI at the final print dimensions in Adobe RGB (1998) or ProPhoto RGB color space (16-bit TIFF preferred, or maximum-quality JPEG/PDF). For oversized prints over 24"×36", 150–240 DPI is often ideal. Need help upscaling a smaller file? Explore our Custom Photo & Image Enlargement service.
Yes! Our Farmingdale, NY facility houses a 48"×72" large-format fine art flatbed scanner capable of digitizing oil paintings, watercolors, charcoals, and mixed media with zero lens distortion, raking light for impasto texture, and cross-polarization to remove varnish glare.
We operate a scientifically color-managed workflow using D50 (5000K) calibrated reference monitors and custom spectrophotometer ICC profiles for each paper and canvas stock. For critical limited editions, we also offer physical hard-proof test strips prior to running your full edition.
Our Canon Lucia Pro 12-color system prints up to 60 inches wide by virtually any roll length (up to 100 feet), allowing for monumental, seamless gallery-scale statement pieces.
Absolutely. You can specify borderless edge-to-edge printing or exact custom white borders (such as 1", 2", or custom weighted bottom margins) for hand-signing, numbering, custom-cut archival matboards, or mirrored/solid canvas gallery wraps.
Yes. Because we are a full-scale architectural framing and print manufacturing studio, your canvas prints can be hand-stretched onto kiln-dried pine stretcher bars and mounted in museum floater frames, or your paper editions can be conservation-matted and glazed under Tru-Vue® Optium Museum Acrylic.
Standard turnaround for unframed Giclée prints is 3–5 business days (allow 5–7 business days when adding canvas stretching or custom framing; rush service is available). We offer tiered wholesale pricing for working artists, photographers, interior designers, and galleries.
